Incidence of bifurcations in mandibular incisors

Summary: 

Purpose:  To investigate the number of root canals in mandibular incisors.

N= 1133 mandibular incisors (683 central and 650 lateral)

Materials/Methods:

•The teeth were filled with India ink and made transparent by clearing agents. •

•The point of division in an incomplete bifurcation located between the cervical and middle thirds of the root ,and the union was between the middle and apical thirds.

•When a complete bifurcation occurred, it was found at the level of the middle and apical thirds.

Clinical significance: 

The access cavity of the lower incisors should be extended lingually  to search for a second canal.
