The Mental Foramen: Part III—Size, and Position on Panoramic Radiographs

Purpose:

Panoramic radiographs were exposed on 75 dry mandibles.

Materials/Methods:

  • 2 SS markers were used . One on the buccal cusps of the molar to the canine and one as a plus sign on the mental foramen.

Results:

1.The mental foramen on panographic radiographs was slightly larger than reported on periapical radiographs. HD= 2.9, VD= 2.5

2.The average position of the foramen was mesial and below the radiographic apex of the tooth.
